Worm’s Head, Wales
Wales, a tiny island located in Great Britain, is THE SPOT for photography lovers, and here it comes, hikers alike! Worm’s Head, situated at the most Western point on the island, is a place you can actually hike during low tide. It sure doesn’t look like it, but I have done it myself, and can vouch for it. It was one of the most magical places to visit, and also the most challenging ones to encounter.
Once you reach the cliffs, and after checking the tides schedule accordingly, you can make your way down to the rocks, which is the hardest part to hike. Once you overcome those, and it’s a must to bring suitable shoes for that, which I didnt!, then you can climb up the actual Worm’s Head, which will reward you with breathtaking views and great solitude, since not too many are up for the challenge. My then-boyfriend/now husband and I visited in June several years ago, and were the only ones at the top of the head. My biggest fear was coming back down on time before the tide comes in! If you do not, you will be stranded.
It took us about 2 hours to make the hike and enjoy a much needed break at the top of it. It’s not suitable for smaller children, due to the level of difficulty, but great for singles, couples, athletes of various sorts, and adventure lovers who are always looking for the next big thing.
We had a rental car, which is the easiest way to get around, but you can also take the train or bus rather easily, and take cabs when needed. Going by car from Central London, it takes a bit over 4 hours to get to Worm’s Head, with some nice pitstops in between, such as Oxford and Cardiff, Wales’ capital.
Have you visited Wales yet? If not, I hope I stirred some curiosity in you for this rather undetected, but gorgeous place.
