Living on “The Edge”
Aerosmith made a song out of it: Living on the edge means “living adventurously, taking risks, and simply living an unusual, but yet exciting life style”. I think you might belong to that category of living if you decide to visit this new viewing platform called “Edge”, located at beautiful Hudson Yards in New York City.
During these socially distanced times, there’s not much we can do in terms of activities and gatherings, but Edge offers a way to get outdoors without unncessary risks and simultaneously offers views that are truly out of this world.
It opened during the pandemic, in September 2020, and has been a hotspot for Instagrammers due to its visual appeal, and locals alike, who were looking for something, ANYTHING, to do. Which included myself. I’m terrified of heights, but after 2020, I needed some risk-taking, even in the form of an all-glass surrounding 100 floors above ground and quite literally “an edge” that is hanging off of the building.
There’s also a glass-floor on which you can stand, and look all the way down, similiar to the famous Skydeck in Chicago. During normal times, I would have never dared to step on it, but again, after 2020, I felt like this has nothing on me. So I stepped on it for a brief 10 seconds and checked it off of my newly created bucket-list.
You can also sit on the designated stairs and have some champagne or snacks, if you’re in need of a break. Three weeks ago, when I visited, it was relatively empty, and I dread to think on how crowded it will get once international traveling resumes, but for now, I enjoyed the views and semi-quietness that came with it. And it gave me something new to do!
